Description
Frutta Martorana is one of the most iconic desserts of Sicilian pastry tradition, a true masterpiece of art and flavor.
It is handcrafted using 100% organic Sicilian almonds and follows a meticulous, slow process that takes nearly five days, just as tradition requires.
Each stage is essential to achieve the perfect result:
- Day 1: preparation of the dough and 24-hour resting period to achieve the right consistency.
- Day 2: hand shaping of fruit forms and 12 hours of rest.
- Day 3: natural hand painting, with 12 hours of drying time for each layer.
- Day 4: finishing touches and final refinements.
- Day 5: polishing and final drying before packaging.
The result is Frutta Martorana with vibrant colors, an intense almond aroma, and a perfect texture—sweet yet balanced, ideal both to enjoy and to gift.
According to tradition, Frutta Martorana originated in the Monastery of Martorana in Palermo, when the nuns, to decorate their barren garden for a papal visit, created fruit-shaped sweets made from almond paste and hand-painted them.
Since then, this dessert has become a symbol of the Day of the Dead celebrations and of Sicilian culture, blending art, history, and taste.
Ideal for:
- Festive desserts
- Gourmet Sicilian gift boxes
- Tastings or food souvenirs
