Description
Saxanigra Brut 96 Months represents the highest and most long-aged expression of Etna Spumante DOC produced by Tenuta Destro. This Traditional Method sparkling wine is made from a single varietal, 100% Nerello Mascalese, an indigenous grape that reaches its finest expression on the volcanic soils of Mount Etna’s north-eastern slopes.
The Estate and the Heroic Vineyard Landscape
The vineyards of the Destro estate lie at 750 meters above sea level in Montelaguardia, near Randazzo. This is the land of “Muntagna,” where, since 1897, man has persistently carved plots of land from vast lava flows. Viticulture here is considered “heroic,” and the estate’s long experience—among the first to produce sparkling wine from Nerello Mascalese—ensures a high level of quality, rooted in deep knowledge of volcanic terroir potential.
Aging and Complexity (96 Months)
This Brut edition stands out for its extraordinary aging period: 96 months (eight years) on the lees in bottle (sur lie). This extended maturation—driven by Antonino Destro’s ambition to go well beyond the classic 36-month benchmark—gives the wine remarkable structure and depth.
