Description
Manna Flakes are a unique natural product and a symbol of the agricultural and artisanal tradition of the Madonie Mountains in Sicily. Manna is obtained by making incisions in the bark of the ash tree, a specific species cultivated in the areas of Castelbuono and Pollina, where harvesting is still carried out today using ancient methods passed down through generations.
By using strong cotton threads, manna harvesters encourage the sweet sap to flow out, which slowly solidifies into the distinctive manna flakes—thin, pure white, and delicate.
This natural sweetener is valued in cooking as a substitute for sugar thanks to its light, aromatic flavor, and also for its health benefits: it is traditionally used to help relieve constipation and is also used in natural cosmetics for its nourishing and soothing properties on the skin.
An authentic product from the Madonie Mountains, capturing the purity of Sicilian nature and the knowledge of a centuries-old tradition.
